Visual logs of piston cores from the Sabrina Seafloor Survey (RV Investigator Voyage IN2017-V01)
Published: 2019-05-03
Descriptions of piston core sections from the Sabrina Sea Floor Survey. Logs comprise descriptions of sediment lithologies down core with Munsell colours based on Munsell soil colour chart. Sediments (long piston/gravity/kasten cores and multi/box/grabs surface sediments) were collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2017_V01. The cores were analysed for a range of properties, including C14 and associated date estimates, magnetic susceptibility and other magnetic properties, bulk density, porosity, grain size, bulk mineralogy, major and trace elements, diatom community composition, and stable isotope and elemental analyses. The physical cores and initial analyses were acquired/conducted on the RV Investigator, but the detailed analyses were conducted after the conclusion of the cruise, at a range of institutions. Metadata of sea floor samples have been provided to the Marine National Facility (MNF) and the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC). Sub sample and analyses have been stored in Excel spreadsheets and lodged with the AADC and Geoscience Australia for inclusion in the Marine Sediments (MARS) data base which also provides online delivery (http://dbforms.ga.gov.au/pls/www/npm.mars.search).
